Last Saturday, pop-up marketplace A Current Affair brought together over 50 vintage apparel and jewelry dealers under one roof at the Cooper Design Space in Downtown Los Angeles. It seems as though one has to sift through a lot of trash at the usual vintage/thrift store(which can be fun), but everything for sale was beautiful and in good condition. I would have liked to have seen more dresses from the 1950s, as I have been looking for an Alfred Shaheen ensemble for quite some time. Nasty Gal Founder and CEO Sophia Amoruso was on hand curating 10 different outfits from the various wares on sale, and it was cool to walk around and get style inspiration from the vendors.
The place was heavy on the sequins, embroidery, and a lot of flowing, boho, Stevie Nicks style tunics and robes. A wide variety of designer items, such as Jean Paul Gaultier bustiers and silk suits by Nicole Miller were also for sale. Rose Bowl Flea Market regular Allyn Scura was also there, and I have been wearing one of their vintage cat eye frames for a few years now. As for the shoppers, black floppy hats were the accessory of the moment. The next event is December 6, so mark your calendars.
Below are some of the items that caught my eye.
